Nose
Rich caramel, toffee, butterscotch, milk chocolate covered raisins, orange peel, peaches, red maraschino cherries, sage, cloves, nutmeg, vanilla beans, pecans, and allspice. The rich barrel character and complexity of this nose are excellent.
Palate
With a creamy medium mouthfeel, the nose moves onto the palate with caramel, butterscotch, toffee, chocolate, pecans, peaches, orange peel, cloves, sage, nutmeg, and oak with a perfect mix of allspice. I love this perfectly balanced Turkey profile that delivers a very flavorful and easy sipping experience.
Finish
This long and enjoyable finish begins with allspice, vanilla, cherry, and tea, with oak that turns into soft pipe tobacco. As the finish closes out, allspice continues to linger with milk chocolate and cherries, ending with soft leather.
Conclusion
I’ve read great things about this release, and it was still better than I expected. It’s a super enjoyable pour that maximizes the flavor and complexity of its proof point, showcasing how great Wild Turkey 101 can be. I’m glad Campari chose to release Jimmy’s 70th Anniversary at a great price point and with a large enough yield for us to snag one. It’s the perfect way to celebrate Jimmy Russell by enjoying his bourbon the way he loved it best.
