About

My name is Mike Rosen and I’m a boomer and a late arrival on the bourbon train. My first real introduction to bourbon was about ten years ago when I walked up to a Four Roses table at a local food show. As I tasted through the samples, I was given a quick explanation of the Four Roses lineup, recipes and the difference between a small batch and a single barrel. I came away wondering where this had been all my life.

It wasn’t until the past couple of years that I began buying different brands of bourbons to compare, and to watch and read reviews to learn everything I could. This led me to the r/bourbon subreddit. It didn’t take long for me to became involved with their single barrel program run by Jay West. This gave me the opportunity to buy a wide range of single barrel picks, and to participate in the subreddit by reviewing them. This has turned into a fun pastime that continues to challenge me to become better at tasting and writing about what I’m experiencing, and to share it with a larger whiskey community.

I enjoy incorporating the history and stories behind the distilleries I’m reviewing, and highlighting new craft distilleries who are producing some very good and interesting whiskeys. I hope you find these reviews helpful in your own bourbon journey.

Thanks for visiting Mostly Bourbon!
